Mrduja lies in the middle of the Split Gates (Splitska Vrata), the ~2.5 km strait between Šolta to the west and Brač to the east, and the dive is on the sheltered northern cliff. The islet's own body shields the north-cliff dive from the southern half of the compass, and Šolta (W) and Brač (E/NE, with the Milna peninsula) close off most of the rest, so the SE Jugo/Scirocco swell — normally the Adriatic's biggest — is largely blocked from reaching this wall. The genuinely open window is up the strait to the N and NNW, toward the Brač Channel and the Split/Kaštela channel, which is where wind-sea and chop can build onto the north cliff; a strong Maestral (NW) or a hard blow funnelling through the gates is the main thing that makes the site uncomfortable or forces a call-off. Currents through the strait can run, but pure swell exposure is low.
