Wreck Ribolovac

About This Site
Ribolovac is the signature wreck of the Split area and one of the most-dived sites on the island of Šolta. She is a 28 m wooden fishing boat lying just off the cape at the entrance to Stomorska bay on the island's northeast coast, resting on the seabed and heeled slightly to her starboard side. The top of the wreck sits at about 13-14 m and the hull rests on a rock-and-sand bottom at roughly 22 m, only some 50 m from shore, so divers never lose contact with the bottom. What makes her special is how intact and atmospheric she remains: the main deck still carries splintered planking, ropes and tangled fishing nets, and the open ribs let daylight flood through while shoals of fish work in and out of the structure. Shallow, sheltered and close in, she is a genuine all-levels wreck and a staple of every local operator's roster.

The wreck lies just off the northeast cape of Šolta at the mouth of Stomorska bay, with the island bulk rising immediately to the south, southwest and west, so the whole landward arc from S through W to NW is well sheltered — Maestral afternoon breezes off the land and any westerly sea are blocked. The exposed window is the open Split/Brač channel to the north, northeast and east, where the site takes wind-sea built across roughly 15 km of channel toward Brač and the Split mainland; a Bura (Bora) gusting offshore from the NE can raise a short, sharp chop here. The Adriatic's dominant Jugo (Sirocco) reaches the site from the SE, running down the channel with the longest fetch and building the biggest waves, though the curving Šolta coast to the SSE gives some shelter as the swell backs toward the south. Being shallow and close to a lee shore, the wreck is diveable in most settled conditions but gets stirred up and murky in any sustained N-to-E channel wind or a strong Jugo.
