The wreck sits on the open-Adriatic side of the Mali Barjak islet off Komiza, on the exposed NW-facing seaward flank of Vis, so it takes the brunt of open-water swell across the whole western arc from SW through W and NW round to N. The bulk of Vis island shields the landward E, ESE, SE and SSE sectors, so the SE Jugo (Sirocco) that sank the ship blows over sheltered water here, while Biševo island to the south partly shadows the S and SSW. The NE and NNE stay largely open across the channel toward the mainland, so a hard Bura (Bora) can still put chop on the site. The smashed bow versus the more intact deeper stern reflects this geometry, the shallow seaward end having been hammered by W/SW waves.
