The Green Cave opens on the south shore of Ravnik, an islet on the exposed south coast of Vis, so its swell window is the open-Adriatic arc from the SE through S to SW. The dominant Jugo (Sirocco) blows up the sea's long SE-NW axis and drives the largest, longest waves straight at this face from the SE-SSE, making it the primary exposure direction, and the S and SW quadrants are fully open ocean. The bulk of Vis lies immediately to the north and shadows the whole landward arc from NW round through N to E, so the cold, gusty Bura (Bora) hammers offshore from the NE with fierce wind but almost no wave fetch here. To the west, the curving south coast of Vis partly blocks the W and WNW sectors. Being a south-facing open-sea cave, it can turn surgy quickly in any southerly sea and is best dived on calm settled days or a light Maestral.
