The statue sits in the sheltered 'Gli Scoglietti' strait, hemmed in by San Nicola close to the east, Cretaccio just to the west-southwest and the bulk of San Domino beyond it, so the landward sectors are almost fully blocked and the site is famously calm. The only meaningful fetch reaches it through the channel mouth to the north and northwest, where a Tramontana (N) or Maestrale (NW) can push a short wind-chop; the Bora, a NE wind, is largely shadowed by San Nicola. Scirocco (S-SE) swell, normally the biggest in this part of the Adriatic, only leaks weakly through the narrow southern mouth and stays largely shadowed by San Nicola.
