The arch and wall sit on the open western coast of San Domino, facing the Adriatic toward the sunset, so the western arc (WSW, W, WNW) is fully exposed, with the SW and NW shoulders wide open too. The island bulk to the east completely shelters the landward sectors, so the NE Bora and the long-fetch SE Scirocco/Jugo — normally the biggest Adriatic seas — arrive shadowed. In this microtidal Mediterranean setting waves are wind-driven over open fetch: the working hazards on this face are the SW Libeccio, the NW Maestrale and any straight westerly, which build short, steep chop and can cancel diving when they blow.
