Secca di Costacuti

About This Site
The signature deep dive of the Anzio-Nettuno stretch of the Roman coast, a large rocky shoal lying about 5 nautical miles offshore in the open Tyrrhenian. The shoal offers three distinct dive points - Costacuti Nord, Costacuti Sud, and the 'ancorone' marked by an ancient Roman anchor used as the descent reference - where a plateau around 33 m drops in a sheer vertical wall to roughly 45 m, smothered in magnificent large red gorgonians. Visibility is consistently excellent and the water turns a brilliant deep blue in summer, making this a classic deep and technical Lazio dive.

An open offshore shoal about 5 nautical miles south of Anzio in the open Tyrrhenian, with no island shelter. It sits fully exposed to the long-fetch Scirocco (SE), Ostro (S) and Libeccio (SW) wind-seas and to the open WSW-W sectors that build the biggest swell here. The nearby Capo d'Anzio promontory to the north, with the Nettuno and Torre Astura coast curving round to the northeast and east, meaningfully shadows the N-NE-E quadrant. Being a deep shoal, swell mainly governs whether boats can reach and hold position on the surface rather than conditions down on the wall.
