Secca della Meloria

An isolated offshore rocky shoal roughly 7 km out in the open Tyrrhenian, fully exposed on every side with no real land shelter. The biggest seas build over the long southern fetch from the Scirocco (S-SE) and from the Libeccio (SW), while the NW Mistral/Tramontana whips up steep chop over the Ligurian; the eastern sector toward Livorno gets the only modest fetch reduction. Being microtidal Mediterranean, conditions are wind-wave driven rather than swell driven, so dives are scheduled around calm-wind windows.
