An exposed offshore wreck on the open Secche di Vada sand flat, several nautical miles off the mainland with no headland to shelter it, so every seaward sector takes wind-wave directly. The strongest exposure is from the SW Libeccio and the NW-N Maestrale/Mistral, which raise short steep chop over the Tyrrhenian fetch, while the warm S-SE Scirocco can also build a sea here. The Tuscan coast lies to the E, so easterly winds are blown offshore and the landward E-ENE sectors are effectively calm.
