A submerged volcanic pinnacle in the channel just off the northeast corner of Stromboli, with the bulk of the island lying to the southwest-to-west and sheltering that quadrant from swell. It faces open Tyrrhenian Sea across the whole eastern and southern arc: the SE Scirocco that gives the secca its name builds the longest fetch here, and the E, SE and S sectors all take swell unobstructed. The northern and northwestern sectors are largely open toward the Calabrian Tyrrhenian, with only the small Strombolicchio sea stack clipping the NE and the island's northern tip trimming the WNW; the NW Maestrale reaches the pinnacle little obstructed. With so little shelter, the site is workable only in settled seas.
