An isolated submerged pinnacle about 550 m off Ficogrande on Stromboli's north-east flank, sheltered to the south-west and west by the bulk of the volcano, which blocks the Libeccio (SW) and the southerly seas entirely. The site faces open Tyrrhenian water through a wide arc from the south-east round through east to the north, so easterly wind-waves and the N-NW Maestrale/Tramontana reach it largely unobstructed and quickly raise surface chop and the current that runs hard across the secca. As a microtidal Mediterranean site there is no real ground swell; conditions are driven by local wind over the open fetch toward Strombolicchio and the open sea beyond.
