Peloponnisos Wreck

MykonosBoat
About This Site
The deep, advanced counterpart to the Anna II and the second canonical Mykonos wreck. The Peloponnisos was a 64 m passenger-cargo steamer built in 1862-63 by Tod & McGregor in Glasgow (originally named Electric) that sank on 20 July 1926 off the exposed north-east coast. It now lies broken into two well-preserved sections, with the shallower part around 15-20 m and the deeper stern section down to roughly 55 m. A demanding, bucket-list dive reserved for experienced deep-certified divers because of the depth and the Meltemi-driven sea state.

Set in open water off the exposed north-east coast of Mykonos, near Dragonisi (Tragonisi) islet, the site faces the full sweep of the Aegean from the north through the east. It takes the dominant summer Meltemi (N to NW) head-on, which routinely makes this part of the island rough and is the main reason dives are weather-dependent. The Mykonos landmass to the south and west blocks those sectors, and Dragonisi gives only a narrow partial shadow from the SE.
