Scuba diving at Anna II Wreck in Mykonos

Anna II Wreck

MykonosBoat
About This Site
The Anna II is the signature dive of Mykonos and the single most-booked boat dive on the island. A 62 m Dutch-built cargo ship (laid down 1966, originally the Knud Sif), she was carrying cement when she sank off Lia Beach on 20 July 1995 and now sits fully upright and intact on a sand-and-rock bottom. The deck sits at recreational depth around 18-21 m while the keel and sand reach 36 m, so the wreck spans a profile that suits everyone from Advanced students through experienced wreck divers. Limited penetration into part of the hull is possible for suitably trained divers, and the structure has matured into a thriving artificial reef.

Warnings for today

  • Strong winds expected

The wreck lies just off Lia Beach on the sheltered south-east coast of Mykonos, with its true open window across the SE-S sectors and the bulk of the island blocking the landward N-NW-W. The east is only half-open, shaded by the east cape and Tragonisi (Dragonisi) island. The Cyclades' dominant summer wind, the Meltemi (N-NW), is shadowed by the island here, which is why this is the most reliably divable site on Mykonos and can be run almost daily. Its real exposure is to the southerly Scirocco and any SE wind-wave, so a strong southerly is the condition that closes it.
