About This Site
Dragonisi (Tragonisi) is the iconic cavern dive of Mykonos, on a small uninhabited islet a few miles off the south-east coast (about 3 miles from Kalafatis). The sheer cliffs are riddled with dozens of caverns, tunnels and chambers, many of them open-water bright from just 3 m, where shafts of sunlight cut through curtains of glassfish. The walls are coated in the distinctive yellow sea anemones found almost exclusively here, and the islet is a protected Natura 2000 nature reserve and one of the Aegean's strongholds for the rare Mediterranean monk seal. Most caverns suit all levels, while the deeper Seal Cave is offered by request to experienced divers only.

Warnings for today

  • Strong winds expected

The caverns line the base of steep cliffs on the eastern, open-Aegean flank of the uninhabited Tragonisi islet, so the exposure window runs NE through SE into open water, while the bulk of the islet and Mykonos beyond it shield the entire western half (WNW through SW). The dominant summer threat is the Aegean Meltemi (N-NW), which wraps around the northern tip and drives short, steep wind-waves onto this windward side, with cavern surge amplifying inside the chambers on windy days. Dives are typically scheduled on calm mornings before the Meltemi strengthens, and the deep Seal Cave is run only in settled conditions.
