Liveros is a small N-facing cove on the south-west tip of Amorgos, and its mouth opens straight into the dominant summer Meltemi, the N-NW wind that originally drove the ship aground. The only open-water window is that northern arc, from NW through N to NNW; the bulk of Amorgos closes off the entire eastern, southern and western half, so Scirocco and any southerly swell are fully land-blocked. Conditions are calm when the Meltemi drops, but a building N-NW blow sends chop and surge directly onto the wreck.
