Manina 3 Wreck (Kinaros)

AmorgosBoat
About This Site
A vast 153.9m cargo carrier that ran onto the rocks of the remote island of Kinaros on a foggy night in March 1981, with the entire crew escaping unharmed. Lying roughly an hour by boat ESE of Amorgos, it is the area's premier big-wreck and the standout penetration dive for advanced and technical divers. The top deck breaks the surface and lies around 15m, the cargo-loading gear sits on a plateau near 18m, and the hull and massive propellers drop past 30m, the whole structure now an immense artificial reef. Four decades of growth have turned the ship into one of the largest and most atmospheric wreck dives in the Cyclades-Dodecanese fringe.

Warnings for today

  • Strong winds expected

The wreck lies against Kinaros on the island's NW-facing flank (orientation ~330 degrees), where the swell window opens across the N-through-W arc, with the N, NNW and NW sectors fully exposed and WNW-W close behind. The bulk of Kinaros shields the site from the S, SE and SW quadrant, so southerly and Scirocco seas are largely blocked. Because the open arc takes in the N-NW direction, the site catches the summer Meltemi when it blows hard, and the SW-WSW gap toward the bay mouth lets a partial sea through; trips are weather-dependent and run only in settled conditions.
