Keri Caves

About This Site
The signature dive of Zakynthos and the headline trip of every Keri-based dive center, set below the dramatic 300 m white cliffs of Cape Marathia. The site is a complex of caves, tunnels, caverns and reef walls, including a long enclosed blue cavern of roughly 75 m, the 'butterfly cave', that crosses the headland to a butterfly-shaped opening. Sunlight pouring through underwater windows turns the water electric blue, and the geometry offers something for everyone: shallow caverns and arches for all levels, plus a reef that rolls into a sheer wall dropping past 40 m for advanced divers.

Set on the south-facing white cliffs of Cape Marathia, the southernmost tip of Zakynthos, the site opens onto the open Ionian to the south and southwest. The island mass shelters it from the N-NW Maestro/Maestrale winds, but it is fully exposed to the warm S-SE Scirocco (the longest-fetch wind in the basin) and to SW Libeccio swell, which can build surge inside the caverns and wrap current around the point. Being in the Ionian rather than the Aegean, the site sees no Meltemi.
