Colovri is an isolated offshore pinnacle/islet at the mouth of Paleokastritsa Bay, roughly 1 km off Corfu's west coast, so the Corfu landmass and the monastery cape shadow the landward north and east sectors while leaving the whole S–SW–W arc facing open Ionian water. The long-fetch SW–S Scirocco/Libeccio swells reach it unobstructed and quickly build chop and surge around the rock, and NW 'Maestro' wind-waves still arrive from the west and northwest only lightly damped by the cape. Being microtidal Mediterranean there is no significant tidal flow, but wind-driven current can wrap the pinnacle and boat dives are cancelled when the NW or SW wind is up.
