Set at the north-east tip of Porquerolles, the site opens N-NE-E across the Hyères roadstead, so wind-waves from those sectors build over open fetch while the island body fully blocks the S-SW-W landward sectors. The prevailing NW Mistral is only partly attenuated here — the cape headland lies to the south and does not shadow the northwest, so a strong Mistral raises rough seas offshore and shelter is limited to the immediate lee of the rocks at the mooring. Diving is calmest with no current in the tight lee, but the exposed NE-E window and marginal Mistral cover mean surface conditions can be choppy, especially on the run back toward the mainland.
