About This Site
The seaward drop-off of Île Verte, the small wooded island off the Bec de l'Aigle reached by a 10-15 minute shuttle from La Ciotat's old port. Small rocky ridges run out from the island into deep water: the eastern face is an immense rock wall dropping to about 25 m with a plateau at 20-25 m and a base falling away toward 55 m, while the south face is draped in large red gorgonians. It suits all levels - Level 1 divers stay shallow over the Posidonia and the upper wall, with the deeper drop-off reserved for more experienced divers.

The seaward drop-off on the south-east and east faces of Île Verte, with its clean open window to the Mediterranean over the SE through S. The ESE is only fringing open and the due-E is partly capped by the Saint-Cyr / La Madrague coast a few kilometres off, so the biggest wind-waves arrive from the S-SE on the long Scirocco (Marin) fetch. The strong NW Mistral is blocked by the island and the Bec de l'Aigle, leaving the landward W-NW-N sectors well sheltered. Microtidal Med water means no tidal current to plan around; surface state is wind-driven, so the site dives best in settled or Mistral conditions.
