The tunnel sits in the channel between the Bec de l'Aigle headland and Île Verte, so the landward sectors are well sheltered: the high Cap Canaille / Bec de l'Aigle massif blocks the NW Mistral and the W-N sectors, while Île Verte screens the E. The open exposure is to the S and SW, where Mediterranean wind-waves driven by the southerly Marin/Scirocco and the SW Libeccio build over the bay; it is a reliable bad-weather choice when an east wind is blowing. Inside the cavern any S-SW swell is amplified into surge.
