The cave sits in Siroka bay on the open-sea SW face of Premuda, the westernmost island of the Zadar archipelago, so it takes the full brunt of open-Adriatic swell from the S, SW and SSW and the long-fetch Jugo (Sirocco) waves arriving from the SE. The island body shelters the site from the N, NE and E (the landward, channel side) — and although the Bura (Bora) screams down off the mainland mountains from the NE/ENE, it blows offshore here with little fetch reaching this face, so it brings fierce wind but small waves. Diving is best in calm settled spells; any S-to-SW sea or a strong Jugo makes the exposed bay mouth surgy and can shut the boat mooring down.
