Fully exposed beach at the south end of Monastery, fronting the Carmel Submarine Canyon. West and west-northwest arrive at near-full strength with northwest slightly softened by refraction, making the south end only marginally kinder than the north in northwest swell. West-southwest is partially shaded by Point Lobos, and south through east are well protected behind the reserve. The steep berm and canyon-fed shorebreak remain dangerous at any tide — coarse, loose sand complicates footing, so time entries between sets.
