Ship Rock

Steep mid-channel pinnacle near the Isthmus exposed to west and west-northwest energy running down the San Pedro Channel at near-full strength, including short-period afternoon wind chop. Rare north through north-northwest swell also arrives unimpeded. South through southwest energy is heavily shadowed by the island before it enters the channel, with only a weak residual wrapping to the rock, keeping it reliable during southern-hemisphere swells. The up-current side teems with life, while the lee offers a calm refuge.
