About This Site
Farnsworth Bank is a legendary dive site known for its rare purple hydrocoral colonies. Located about 2 miles off Catalina Island's windward southwest coast near Ben Weston Point, this underwater seamount rises from depths of 140 feet to about 60 feet below the surface. Considered a bucket-list dive for West Coast divers, Farnsworth offers dramatic underwater topography and unique marine life not commonly found at other Southern California dive sites.

Warnings for today

  • High waves expected

Exposed offshore pinnacle on Catalina's windward side. South-southwest through west hit at full to amplified strength as swells shoal over the 60-foot bank, with south-southeast also high. Due-south energy is moderated by San Clemente Island's shadow. Northwest still arrives at high exposure, north-northwest at moderate levels, and north through northeast are well protected. Currents can rip across the pinnacle tops unexpectedly.
