The site sits at the southern tip of the Portofino promontory below the lighthouse, whose bulk to the west and northwest blocks the Libeccio (SW) and northern seas, while the southeast-to-south quadrant faces wide open to the Ligurian Sea. The dominant exposure is the warm Scirocco (SE-S), which builds the largest wind-waves over the long fetch toward Corsica and North Africa; the east also stays open across the 8-16 km mouth of the Gulf of Tigullio, so only the promontory-shadowed western and northern sectors offer real shelter. This southeast-facing geometry also drives the strong currents that sweep off the point toward open water.
