South-facing beach taking direct hits from south through south-southwest swell at near-full to high strength, with south-southeast arriving at moderate exposure past Catalina's shadow edge. Southwest and west-southwest carry high exposure through the open corridor south of the Channel Islands, while west and west-northwest arrive with most of their energy — the island screening shows up in the offshore swell itself. North through northeast is fully blocked. Summer south swells create powerful shorebreak and surge; the shallow reef is surge-prone even on small days.
