The statue sits on the seaward (SE) flank of Isola dei Cavoli, off the southeastern tip of Sardinia. Isola dei Cavoli, Capo Carbonara and the Sardinian headland all lie to the northwest and west, shadowing the N, NW and W sectors, so the open fetch is the Tyrrhenian Sea to the east and southeast (peaking due E). A Scirocco (SE) or any fresh easterly blows straight into this window and closes the site out, while the Mistral (NW) and Libeccio (SW) are largely blocked by the island and cape. In the typical calm summer high-pressure spell it is flat and easy.
