About This Site
Le Bateguier is one of the most-dived sites of the Lerins islands, a multi-level drop-off on the Bateguier shoal off the western tip of Ile Sainte-Marguerite. Three distinct faces suit every level: a small drop-off (3-36 m) toward Cannes, a grand drop-off plunging beyond 40 m toward Saint-Honorat for experienced divers, and a gentle shallow zone toward Sainte-Marguerite ideal for beginners and training. The wall is famous for its yellow gorgonians, resident groupers and red coral tucked into the cracks, all over a backdrop of Posidonia meadow.

Sitting off the western tip of Ile Sainte-Marguerite, the tombant is sheltered from the east through south by the island and the wider Lerins archipelago, which block the SE-S Scirocco almost completely, while the mainland Cannes coast dampens the northern sectors. Its open-water faces look west and southwest into the Golfe de la Napoule, where wind-wave from the SW Libeccio builds quickest; the NW Mistral arrives across the gulf only partly broken by the coast. Being microtidal, conditions here are driven almost entirely by wind rather than swell or tide.
