Set on the remote south-west tip of Milos, Kleftiko's bays and rock arches open to the south and south-east toward open water, with the west-south-west flank partly cut off by the island's own south-west cape. The Milos landmass shadows the site from the dominant summer Meltemi blowing out of the north and north-west, so divable conditions are common when the rest of the island is wind-blown. The exposed south-facing sectors take southerly Scirocco wind-waves and any S-SE swell, which push surge through the shallow caverns and can shut the site down or stir up sand in the swim-throughs.
