The cavern opens on Capri's extreme east point near Punta della Chiavica, the near-vertical wall facing ESE over open Tyrrhenian water, so the E-SE sectors are the exposed window and surge is worst from there. The long-fetch Scirocco (SE-S) builds the biggest seas and can push surge into the broad chamber, peaking from the ESE-SE, while due south stays only partly open and due east is more fetch-limited as it looks toward the Sorrento Peninsula and Gulf of Salerno. The Capri island body shelters the SW-through-NW arc, blocking the Libeccio (SW), while the nearby Sorrento Peninsula and Li Galli islets to the NE-ENE clip fetch from that quarter and the island shoulder fully shadows the north.
