Scuba diving at Faraglioni di Capri in Capri

Faraglioni di Capri

CapriBoat
About This Site
Capri's iconic sea-stack trio - Stella, Faraglione di Mezzo and Scopolo - rising off the island's southern tip at Punta Tragara. Divers work the rocky bases and the surge channel beneath the famous 60 m natural tunnel that pierces Faraglione di Mezzo, then drop deeper to a fallen electrical pylon that a storm toppled onto the seabed and that has since become a colourful artificial reef. A scenic, varied, boat-only dive that combines dramatic underwater topography with one of Italy's most photographed surface landmarks.

The site sits off Capri's south-southeast coast at Punta Tragara, with the island's bulk shadowing the northern and western sectors from the Tramontana. It faces the open Tyrrhenian to the south and east, so it takes the brunt of the Scirocco (S-SE, the longest fetch and largest wind-waves) and is also worked by the Libeccio (SW). In this microtidal Mediterranean setting swell is modest and wind-driven, but a fresh Scirocco closes the site down quickly and the surge channels around the stacks amplify any sea that does arrive.
