The site sits on the seaward, north-west face of the Petalidi (Glaronisi) islet off Dia's NW corner, so the open Cretan Sea to the N, NW and W is fully exposed while the bulk of Dia island shadows the southern and south-eastern sectors. The dominant hazard is the summer Meltemi, the strong N-NW Aegean wind, which drives wind-wave chop straight onto the walls and can cancel trips on peak days. Calm, settled weather (or a southerly Scirocco that the island blocks) gives the flat, glass-clear conditions the site is known for.
