The cave sits on the south face of the Punta de la Mona, opening to the Alboran Sea, so the exposed window is the southern arc — S, SSW and SW are wide open to the open sea and to the Poniente/Vendaval swell that builds along the coast from the west-southwest, the direction that most often puts waves on this face. The Punta de la Mona itself lies immediately to the east and shadows the E and ESE sector, blunting Levante seas that funnel down the coast, while the headland and mainland rising to the north and northwest block the whole N-NW arc. Being on the outer, seaward side of the point, the site is more swell-exposed than the sheltered coves toward Marina del Este, and a sustained Poniente or a southerly blow raises surface chop and surge that can make the cave and shallow wall uncomfortable and cut visibility; a Levante is largely knocked down by the point.
