About This Site
Aspronisi Wall, also called White Island Wall, is the premier wall dive of the Santorini caldera, set on the uninhabited Aspronisi ('White Island') islet on the western caldera rim. The drop-off begins at just 7-9 metres and plunges vertically down a black lava wall to around 30 metres, with the volcanic face continuing far deeper beyond recreational limits. It is the standout deeper option on the caldera circuit and one of roughly nine dive sites clustered around the islet.

Warnings for today

  • Strong winds expected

The wall sits on the southeastern flank of the Aspronisi islet at the southwestern corner of the Santorini caldera, with the islet body shadowing the landward NW-N sectors and the bulk of Thera and Cape Akrotiri blocking the SE-E. There is no real ocean swell in the Aegean, so exposure is wind-wave driven: the primary open window is W-SW, where the wide western caldera opening between Therasia and the Akrotiri headland faces the open Aegean, so westerly and southwesterly winds drive clean fetch straight onto the wall. The summer Meltemi (N-NW) is largely blocked by the islet and the caldera rim, so dives are best run on calm or northerly days when Aspronisi provides a lee.
