The wall sits on the Agios Georgios islets in the deep channel between Alonissos and Skopelos, with its only real fetch window facing S-SSE out the mouth of the channel toward the open Aegean. Skopelos blocks the W-NW sectors close aboard and the bulk of Alonissos shadows the E-NE, so wind chop rolling up the channel from the south is the strongest exposure the wall sees. There is almost no true ocean swell in the Aegean, but the channel's persistent tidal and wind-driven current is the defining condition and the reason the gorgonians thrive.
