About This Site
Russian Gulch State Park features a protected cove just north of the town of Mendocino, offering one of the most accessible dive sites on the Mendocino coast. The cove is sheltered by high bluffs and a natural headland, creating calmer conditions than exposed sites nearby. A collapsed sea cave known as the Devil's Punchbowl lies just north of the cove, adding to the area's dramatic geology.

W-shaped cove with dive entry in the northern protected wing, one of the easiest entries on the Mendocino coast. West swell reaches the entry at roughly half strength after diffracting into the cove, with west-southwest and southwest at moderate exposure and west-northwest through northwest substantially shadowed by the northern headland. The cove mouth and southern half are far more exposed than the entry area. Best when swell is from the south or small.
