Set on a SSW-facing wall at the extreme tip of the Capo Caccia promontory, the cave is sheltered from the prevailing NW Mistral by the long limestone peninsula, which blocks the whole N-NE-NW arc; Isola Foradada, lying just to the north, further shadows the northerly sectors. The open Mediterranean window is to the south and southwest, where the SW Libeccio and the long fetch across the open western Med drive the largest swell, while the Scirocco (SE) reaches the wall only obliquely, part-broken by the Sardinian coast. As with any cavern, swell from that S-SW quadrant is amplified inside the entrance, so expect surge on any southerly sea.
