West-facing point, more exposed than typical Seattle sites due to the jutting peninsula. Ocean swell doesn't penetrate Puget Sound, but north through west winds build significant chop with long fetch. The entry on the north shore of the spit sits in a southerly lee; south winds matter mainly for the boat ride around the tip. Vashon Island provides minimal wind shadow.
