Set in the sheltered Bahía de Las Coloradas on Lanzarote's leeward south coast, the site is shielded by the island landmass from the dominant NW Atlantic groundswell and the prevailing NE trade winds, both of which arrive over high ground to the north and east. The one properly open window is to the SSE and SE, where south-tracking Atlantic swell can wrap around the coast, with a lesser gap to the WSW down the Bocayna strait toward Fuerteventura. The due-S through SW sectors are largely blocked by Isla de Lobos and Fuerteventura across the strait, so it stays calm and leeward and is one of the most accessible dives in the Canaries.
